Learning About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese term which means universal life energy. It is the power which acts and lives in all created matters. The word has two parts ‘Rei’ which means universe and ‘ki’ which means life force energy which flows through all living beings. Reiki is the word by which the universal life force is known. This force which is in abundance and surrounds the earth can be drawn by a person to cure him of various ailments and to enjoy a healthy and energetic life.

How does Reiki Work?

We have life because of Life force energy flowing through us. This energy flows through our physical body through our energy centers. It also flows around us as an energy field called aura. This life force energy enters the body from the crown and passes though different energy centers and then reaches every fraction of the body. As negative thoughts and incorrect food habits have an influence on the on the functioning of the energy centers, the performance of the energy centers gets affected due to wrong living. Due to the inactivity in the energy centers, it prevents the Reiki energy from reaching the parts of the body. The cause of our sickness lies here. Reiki’s aim is to cleanse the energy centers so that the universal life force can again flow well and reach all parts of the body.

Reiki Attunement.

To become a Reiki healer one has to go through the process of attunement. For receiving the attunement the student has to be physically present with the Reiki master and that is why Reiki cannot be learned from a book. The Reiki attunement is harmless and a simple process. It opens and clears obstructions in the body’s energy channels. The person being attuned receives an increase in this life force energy for his/her own healing and also gets connected to the universal source of this energy.

Reiki Healing

Reiki healing occurs when a Reiki healers places his/her hands on the patient. The energy is then drawn energy and flows to his energy centers and changes them with clear energy. This dissolves the negative energy, clears up the energy field and allows the amazing self-healing capacity of the body to assume over and healing takes station. During treatment with Reiki we lay our hands gently on various parts of the body with our finger closed. The healer soon experiences a kind of flowing sensation, often combined with a sensation of warmth, which can turn into heat or become quiet cold. The patient may also feel the flowing of hot or frigid sensation. Most Reiki recipients commence to relax during healing and may even tumble asleep, but this does accomplish any difference in the effects of treatments.

What can Reiki Heal?

Reiki is a very positive energy . It can be given to anyone-infants, adults or even aged people. Reiki can also be given to plants and animals. Reiki energies heal whatever needs healing, but the outcome can never be predicted. A healer cannot guarantee a certain outcome but the receiver is sure to profit in some way. Reiki relieves hurt, speeds the healing process, stops bleeding, relaxes the receiver and balances the person. Reiki has been known to aid in healing of illnesses like Arthritis, migraines, heart disease, blood pressure burns, asthma, cuts, rashes, bruises, back problems, stomach problem, throat problems, and lack of confidence, lack of sleep, diabetes, tiredness, tension, madden and depression. Reiki is helpful in healing almost all conditions. For a person who has no physical or emotional problems it prevents strain and illness, for those with nervousness and stress it removes the cause and leads to peace and relaxation. Some aches and pains are comforted immediately and unceasing problems may hold longer to heal. Reiki is an extremely edifying, simple and completely safe method of healing.

Principles of Reiki

#1: Just for today I will live the attitude of gratuity

#2: Just for today I will not worry

#3: Fair for today I will not anger

#4: Unprejudiced for today I will do my work honestly

#5: Just for today I will show love and respect for all living and non living things.

These five principles of Reiki helps us to stay away from getting caught in restlessness which arises because of our state of mind or our attitude This restlessness causes anger, hatred, envy and vengeance. This in turn affects our physical and mental health. When our mind is clear and relaxed we are bound to get good results.

Degrees in Reiki

There are two ways in which a person can benefit from Reiki. The first one is by going to a Reiki healer for healing and the second one is by learning Reiki. Reiki offers a three degree course. The first degree course of Reiki is a basic course for beginners which need no special qualifications. The first degree is primarily for self healing and for healing someone who is physically present. This healing is done by placing the hands on oneself or another person. Self treatment is very useful for deep relaxation and relief from stress. It creates a sense of balance in our physical, emotional and spiritual self. The second degree course in Reiki is an advance course which allows the healer to heal those who are not physically present and send energy over a distance. This is possible because the second degree course teaches about the three Reiki symbols and other worthy techniques for using Reiki. The third degree course in Reiki is a master healer’s course which qualifies you to be a teacher to thunder Reiki. This degree is suggested only for those who wish to take up healing seriously and want to make Reiki a key part of their lives.

Reiki becomes a way of life allowing you to live your life in a more efficient way prioritizing the significant things and learning to let go of unnecessary negative aspects of your existence. The best map to understand Reiki and how it works is to experience it for yourself, either by having a series of treatments, or by training just for own and family use. An important point to remember is that with Reiki there are no rights or wrongs because it will never harm you in any procedure but only bring happiness, satisfaction, health and abundance into your life.

I often use the Master Cleanser program for a speedily energy boost and detox before starting a long term weight loss program. While many people will criticize detoxification programs like the Master Cleanser lemonade diet, my experience with the program has been colossal. As with any program, you need to do your research before starting.

The Master Cleanser program is outlined in the book of the same name by Stanley Burroughs. I found this book on Amazon, both used and new. Although the Master Cleanse, or lemonade diet, is very simple, I continue to refer back to my book each time I do the cleanse, so it is well worth purchasing.

The basic lemonade recipe is very simple. According to The Master Cleanser with Special Needs and Problems by Stanley Burroughs, it takes 2 Tbsp lemon juice, 2 Tbsp. maple syrup, 1/10 Tsp. cayenne pepper and about 10 oz water. The book recommends using darker maple syrup, Grade B or C. I was able to find Grade B in a health food store, and I have used Grade A in a pinch until I could bag to the health food store. You can also use slightly less maple syrup if you’re trying to lose weight in addition to the detox, which I always do. However, never vary the amount of lemon juice. Drink six to twelve glasses of the lemonade per day, with no other food during the cleanse. Drink as much as you need to avoid hunger, but drink less if you are trying to lose weight. I find six to eight glasses is plenty for me.

To help the cleanse, the Master Cleanser book recommends drinking a gentle laxative tea in the evening and again when you wake up. Instead of the tea in the morning, you can do a salt water flush, which is 2 Tsp of uniodized sea salt mixed with a quart of lukewarm water. Drink this first thing in the morning, before you drink anything else. This step was the hardest for me; at first I could only finish a small portion of the salt water, and many times I could not keep it down. The problem was that I was trying to drink it fast, to acquire it over with. When I stopped trying to chug it down and drank shrimp amounts slowly, I was able to finish the entire amount and keep it down.

The first time I did the lemonade diet, I was in terrible shape. I was addicted to diet soda and junk food, and I did not follow the recommendation in the book to clean up your diet a few weeks before starting the cleanse. By the end of the second day, I was miserable. My head throbbed, I felt physically ill, and I could barely depart because my body hurt so badly. This lasted for three days, then I was glorious. In fact, after those three days of serious withdrawals and detox, I had more energy than ever. My skin cleared up, my headaches disappeared, and for the first time in literally years, I was sleeping soundly. It was an amazing change. I did not have a scale, but I could tell right away that I was losing weight. My tightest clothes were looser, and by the end of the eleven day cleanse I was wearing a smaller size. I could have stayed on the cleanse longer, but we were going out of town, and I didn’t think it was feasible to do it while traveling.

The biggest mistake I made was not easing back into regular eating. I tried to, and I even made the vegetable soup that the Master Cleanser book recommends and ate only it for a day after ending the cleanse. But then I had a few french fries. That was a big mistake, because I was so sick after that. I felt worse after eating those fries than I had during the first three days of the Master Cleanse, because my stomach reacted so violently to the fried food. It was not worth it, and in all the subsequent cleanses I have done, I made sure to ease back into healthy eating very slowly. I have found that the lemonade diet works best for me as a quick ten day detoxification program if I’ve gotten off track with my healthy eating, although I have read many positive experiences with much longer cleanses.

The Master Cleanser/lemonade diet is a great way to jump initiate your weight loss program or unprejudiced give your overall health a great boost. Follow the instructions in the book, and be sure to ease into the cleanse with healthy eating and kill the cleanse slowly by gradually adding healthy foods to your diet.
